- Pay attention to the structure of each paragraph. The most important information is probably going to be found at the beginning and end of the paragraph.
- look for trigger words. Writers use these words as signposts to direct your reading.
When you see same direction words such as for example, in addition, and, or furthermore, you know the author is going to be supporting an earlier statement. If you already understand the point of the paragraph, feel free to skim through these lines.
However, opposite direction words like although, but, yet, and however, signify an important shift. Writers use words like this to direct the reader’s attention to an important change.
