Lead-in:  Picture description

-  Ask Ss to describe the picture and make some guesses about the content of the picture 

- lead to the lesson

- Tell Ss that they are going to listen to a conversation between a student and her friends 

Play the recording. Ss listen and read the conversation silently.

1. Activity 1:  Situation setting

a/ Listening to and practicing the dialogue 

- have ss listen to the CD and practice the dialogue in pairs  ( 3 minutes)  and have them call out its  main content

--> gives keys : HELPING STUDENTS IN NEED

b/ Comprehension check – TRUE/ FALSE/ NOT GIVEN( in pairs)

1-Maria is preparing some gifts for students with disabilities .

2- Only students at Maria 's school can join  the campaign.

3-Local charities will send the gifts to different schools.

4- Kevin will donate an educational toy for learning languages .

5- Maria will plan  a visit  to a school for  children with disabilities .

2. Activity 2:  Vocabulary 

Have Ss work in pairs. Ask them to read the conversation again, and do the tasks below

 Lesson 1 : Getting started	 HELPING STUDENTS IN NEED 
I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson , students will be able to :
 - get an overall view 
 + of the topic of the whole unit “ Caring for those in need ” 
 + that they are going to be taught in the unit through a dialogue ( accompanied by a comprehension task – TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN STATEMENTS)
- have some practice with the vocabulary items
 disrespectful / cognitive - visual - physical - mental – hearing impairment / disability – disabled / integrate in the community / donate -donor – make a donation / start – launch- join a campaign

 A group of students are preparing some gifts in the school library.
Maybe they are going to visit some disadvantaged children in the community.
- Listen to the CD and practice the dialogue in pairs ( 3 minutes) and call out its main content

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson , students will be able to :
- learn and use new vocabulary items with contextual meanings
 - distinguish and pronounce correctly the elision of vowels, especially the schwa sound / Ə /
 - use past simple and present perfect tense of verbs appropriately
